Krugersdorp, Gauteng – 10 April 2025: The Krugersdorp community marked a significant milestone in local healthcare with the official re-opening of the Krugersdorp Oncology Centre this week. Following a comprehensive renovation and advanced technology upgrade, the centre now houses an Elekta Synergy® Linear Accelerator (Linac), bringing cutting-edge cancer treatment to the doorstep of Mogale City and its surrounding areas.
This development is more than a medical upgrade – it is a powerful step forward in making compassionate, high-quality cancer care accessible to everyone, regardless of location. For residents and neighbouring towns, the reopening means shorter travel times, less disruption to family life, and a renewed sense of hope close to home.
The reopening function and ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by local oncologists, members of the medical community, employees and patients who are currently receiving treatment at the centre.
Advanced Technology, Local Impact
The recently installed linear accelerator enables faster, more targeted, and highly effective radiation treatment – all delivered with a focus on comfort and dignity. Previously, many patients had to endure long and tiring journeys to Johannesburg to access similar levels of care. Now, advanced cancer treatment is available right where they live, making the experience less overwhelming and more empowering.
A Centre Built Around People
Beyond the technology, the Krugersdorp Oncology Centre has been thoughtfully renovated to foster a warm and welcoming environment. Every element of the space – from reception to treatment rooms – reflects a deep commitment to patient dignity, comfort, and emotional support.
The centre provides holistic, patient-centric care to which local medical specialists and oncologists can refer their patients for treatment. Its friendly and professional personnel recognises that cancer affects every aspect of a person’s life – physically, emotionally, and financially – and ensure that care is delivered with empathy, respect, and coordination.
The upgraded facility represents a beacon of hope and healing for the community, ensuring that quality treatment is not only available but accessible to those who need it most.
